Update from the Salem church in Spain

Musical Extravaganza: God’s Faithfulness through the generations

Paco, the pastor of the Salem church in Córdoba, Spain recently emailed us. ‘’We had the opportunity to launch a project that would unite the Evangelical Churches of Córdoba,” he modestly wrote. “The Lord extended His grace and doors opened for us to carry it out.’’ The local press said it this way: “The Christmas musical conquered the public with a vibrant extravaganza of jazz, gospel and impassioned choir.”

When speaking of faithfulness to God’s calling, we have often used the example of the Salem Church in Córdoba. Over 40 years ago the founding pastors, José Maria and Feli, along with their three young daughters, left the comfort of the Salem church in Madrid to begin a church plant in this southern Andalusian city. As beautiful as the historic city is, it is a different cultural environment and, along with its regional accent, required personal adjustments and sacrifices. Now pastored by daughter and son-in-law, Dorcas and Paco, the church continues to grow and reach into the community.

When we received Paco’s message and heard of the evangelical community uniting together to impact the city so significantly, it brought to mind once again God’s faithfulness to those who respond to the call that He has placed on their lives and the satisfaction it brings to those who are faithful to that call.

Dorcas, a professor at the highest ranked conservatory of music in Córdoba, utilized her inspiration and professional excellence to direct the choir, orchestra, drama and ballet production that impacted over 1000 people in the city

Northwest Spain

The faithfulness of God can be told as well in the verdant, coastal area of northwest Spain where Pastors Maxi and Angela have served faithfully for over 30 years. After many years of hard work and little growth it is delightful to hear Maxi now write:

“We are contented and so grateful for all that the Lord is doing. Each Sunday new people visit the church and slowly the church is growing not only in numbers but in spiritual maturity.  We are now a group of 80+ adults, youth and children.”

Prayer for Romania

  • Pastor Cristi of the International Church writes: “We have had many children attending both of our Sunday meetings. Pray that God will grow the gospel seeds that are being planted in their hearts.''
  • Iana Matei, director of Reaching Out Romania, has just submitted a proposal to the European Union that would, if accepted, allow her to go into two high schools with the goal to instruct, inform, and prevent human trafficking in younger girls and boys. Please pray that this project would be accepted by the EU so that Iana could begin implementing it with the local school staff and counsellors.
