Paco, the pastor of the Salem church in Córdoba, Spain recently emailed us. “We had the opportunity to launch a project that would unite the Evangelical Churches of Córdoba,” he modestly wrote. “The Lord extended His grace and doors opened for us to carry it out.” The local press said it this way: “The Christmas musical conquered the public with a vibrant extravaganza of jazz, gospel and impassioned choir.”
When speaking of faithfulness to God’s calling, we have often used the example of the Salem Church in Córdoba. Over 40 years ago the founding pastors, José Maria and Feli, along with their three young daughters, left the comfort of the Salem church in Madrid to begin a church plant in this southern Andalusian city. As beautiful as the historic city is, it is a different cultural environment and, along with its regional accent, required personal adjustments and sacrifices. Now pastored by daughter and son-in-law, Dorcas and Paco, the church continues to grow and reach into the community.
When we received Paco’s message and heard of the evangelical community uniting together to impact the city so significantly, it brought to mind once again God’s faithfulness to those who respond to the call that He has placed on their lives and the satisfaction it brings to those who are faithful to that call.
